Cognoscente of the extraordinary, Marie Chouinard shares her reflections on the contact between the elusive Other and the flagrance of Beauty in the Goldberg Variations by Johann Sebastian Bach. Subtle and extravagant, sumptuous and wild, the movements plumb the insoluble mystery of the body, of living.
Filmed in high definition, this film showcases the exceptional dancers of the COMPAGNIE MARIE CHOUINARD.

Emerging from the depths of a black space, a man and a woman choose to meet. A dialogue of their breath and tongues, like strange, independent entities exiting from their mouths to engage in
a dance of copulation. The faces of the man and woman, in profile, fill the entire screen, face to face in intense intimacy, without ever touching.

Multiscreen film
A multi-screen film, a cantata for a multiplied man and woman. The heads of a man and woman in profile were filmed individually. Using sounds issuing from their mouths and tongues, a cantata is
born in which they respond to each other in a primary dialogue. The sound and the image are intimately related. The work is constructed around micro-movements of their faces, which are treated
like rhythmic elements. Behind the profile of the man and woman their own image appears, multiplied like so many levels of accumulated and simultaneous consciousness. In this way, the cantata
fluctuates between two and eight voices.

“…we are in the presence of a completely accomplished work… Here the eight-voice fugue is reinvented in a manner so perfect it would make Johann Sebastian Bach jealous”
