Her first group work, Les Trous du ciel (1991), was acclaimed in Canada, the United States and Europe. Critics and public alike felt the same intensity as in her solos, which was heightened by the numerous dancers. “Les Trous du ciel, the delicate fruit of immense labour, with its invisible compositional lines, belongs first and foremost to the art of poetry.” (Le Devoir, Montreal)
The Rite of Spring, set to the music of Stravinsky, followed in 1993; from 1994, it was performed in a dual program with Prelude to the Afternoon of a Faun, to the music of Debussy. With its evocative power and visceral energy, the program had a powerful impact: “... one of those rare performances that shook me deeply, in body and spirit.” (China Times, Taiwan)
In L’Amande et le diamant (1996), Marie Chouinard continued her research into the connections between sound and movement. “Our fascination with this monumental and extremely dense work is almost limitless.” (Le Devoir, Montreal)
